Railway women footballers triumph

East Coast Railway won the Jayant Mohapatra Memorial Women Football Tournament, defeating Unit-IX Government Girls High School 4-3 in the final via tie-breaker at Unit-VI High School ground here today. Penalty shoot-out rule was applied after play in the regulation time ended in goalless draw. The champion team received a cash prize of Rs 5,000. Government Sports Hostel and Neeta Ambani Football Academy finished third and fourth respectively.

Textile Minister Sarojini Hembrum handed over the trophy and prizes at the closing ceremony. Former minister Padmanav Behera, local MLA Bijay Jumar Mohanty, host Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Mohanty and secretary Dilip Das were present on the occasion.

International woman footballers Lochana Munda and Supriya Routray along with eminent sports personalities Ashok Mohanty, Arabinda Mitra, K M Rao, Ranjita Mohanty and Urmila Das were felicitated at the function by Unit-VI Athletic Association on the occasion of its silver jubilee celebration.

Individual prize winners: Player of the tournament: Sakina Nisha; Best defender: Rajasmita Ojha (both Unit-IX), Best goalkeeper: Swarnamayee Samal; Best mid-fielder: Lochana Munda; Best forward: Supriya Routray (all East Coast Railway).
